A magical island of Cyclades Greece

Naxos Island Greece

Naxos Island is the largest and most fertile in the Cyclades in Greece. The capital of the Island is the town of Naxos or “Chora. Entering its port one can’t miss the Palace Isle with its enormous marble gate, the only remains left from the 6th century BC Temple of Apollo and the perfect place to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Greek Aegean.

Above the whitewashed houses of the town of Naxos Island is the Venetian Castle that was built in 1207. It tells the history of the years of Frankish domination on the island and was the seat of power in the Cyclades for 300 years.

The fact that Naxos island is the greenest in the Cyclades and has the highest mountain (Zas reaches 1004m of altitude) means that it is also fertile and has plenty of water, even during the driest seasons.
